Opium Bar

The delicious offspring of a clandestine tryst between the exotic Orient and culinary aristocratic France, Opium, is, simply, beautiful.

The delicious offspring of a clandestine tryst between the exotic Orient and culinary aristocratic France, Opium, is, simply, beautiful.

Vietnam was a French outpost for many years and Opium has warmly embraced the French influences lending an exotic, colonial feel to the menu. Unlike many other Oriental cuisines, the food at Opium is served in the European tradition as single, independent dishes - not shared in the middle of the table. Side dishes are ordered separately. The food is extremely healthy, as there is a lot less oil used in the cooking than in other Asian cuisines.

Opium's backdrop is provided by new-world music that includes live performances from various chanteuses singing a repertoire of torch songs - many of them in French. Ornate wooden screens and bespoke French furniture help create the Vietnamese opium den atmosphere in this 250 capacity venue. Among the most exciting design features is the faded, gold tunnel entrance leading to the principal room consisting of three pagoda areas. The main room features relaxing sofas, a winter garden, a fountain and a six-foot high gold Shiva.
